ED KEMMER
as Ben Grant
Like other franchise character Sam Lucas, upstanding attorney Ben Grant was one of the nicest characters in Somerset. Unfortunately, he also suffered from the most terminal of TV serial diseases... incurable dullness.
Husband to genteel Ellen Bishop and father to twins Jill and David, Ben spent much of his time defending friends and family members from various criminal charges. Robert Delaney, Ginger Cooper, and Tony Cooper all benefited from his courtroom expertise. In late 1974, with Somerset's crime rate in a brief lull, Ben visited his daughter Jill and son-in-law Mitch in Italy. He died there in a tragic offscreen car crash, fortuitously freeing wife Ellen to a more exciting life back in Somerset.
